ETJ-Aichi workshops

I finally attended one of the ETJ-Aichi’s workshops. They run a bimonthly ESL workshop on Sundays which welcomes everybody to come and join in providing you book a seat and fill in a pre-registration form first on their website. Thankfully, s’s and Lj came along too to lessen the blow of boredom and see Ruth Barnes from New Zealand introduces how puppets, rhymes and magnetic stories to develop English language skills for children. Although the talk was, in fact, fairly conventional, I found some parts were quite good. I learnt a few pointers which I can use with my teaching style. With 500 yen a pop, it wouldn’t hurt your pocket too much. Both experienced and newbie teachers and students all attend the workshop. The EXPO is apparent on the pipeline and will kick off on 18th October. Speakers and volunteers are all welcome to come and help out. Just check out their website for updates. Also, you might catch a glimpse of us on Flight of The Kiwi, the photos taken on that day.

Summer equals a long holiday

Yep, the heat is on! And summer holiday is around the corner. For most, a 6-week break is what we’re talking about and if you’re fortunate enough, you’ll probably have 7-8 weeks off. I don’t know about you but I can’t wait! 3 weeks to go and counting. Hurrah!

School trips

Many JHSs organise school trips in June. But due to the outbreak of and concern over swine flu, schools have begun cancelling some trips. Those who are resolute will hit the road to the capital Tokyo which remains a popular choice of destination as well as Kyoto and Nara and Mount Fuji in Yamanashi Prefecture. The trip or shall we say the break usually lasts 3-4 days especially if you're a 3rd grader. 2nd graders are slightly less and as for the 1st graders - a day excursion would be just fine.
